Such Intricate Work! Beautiful White Cotton Batiste Late Victorian Shirtwaist. Yoke of alternating Embroidered & Val Lace Insertion, with band of fine Pintucking. Back Yoke in similar detail. Front of bodice has 2 pointed panels of Val Insertion & fine pintucking, with a matching panel on each 3/4 length puffed sleeve. Cuffs of embroidered insertion finished in Vel lace edging. Â
Neckline has older band of cotton machine braid, may or may not be original, but not recent, and can easily be removed, if you wish. (Inside does not show a band collar to have been removed, but it may have once hand one.)
Back closes with hooks & eyes, 2 missing hooks, & has vertical panels of 8 pintucked rows on either side. As with all blouses of this era, front is fuller & longer (front waist gathering removed), with back higher, & its band of gathering still intact. There are several small mends scattered about, mostly on waistband area, & near hem , not very noticeable. Laces & yoke all appear sound.
