Rare late 1880s-1900 East Tennessee Victorian morning (or maternity) dress of black and white sprigged cotton calico. Black collar, yoke & pocket trimmed with black & white braid; which also trims ruffle above sleeves. Back has fitted waist, front is loose, & opens halfway down the dress. Interior has attached, fitted light muslin short, built-in camisole which buttons down the front and ends a few inches below bust. Two small holes in muslin on either side of ribs, almost looks deliberate. Fabric is quite sound & has been washed & pressed. There is a small, older iron-on mend of a snag on sleeve ruffle, one other very small snag in front gathering. Have to look for these. Sleeves may have been shortened at some point? This little gal is well over a hundred years old, but quite wearable.
Measures: Shoulders approx 13 1/2"; Armholes approx 16" diam; Interior Bust approx 32"; Front Bust & Waist completely loose, & never had snaps or buttons, would have been pinned. Overall length approx 54". (Due to front fullness, it is not necessary to button interior camisole for wearing.)
